Bauer has completed the transition away from goalie cowlings to goalie holders. In 2011, they re-designed and changed the industry standard for a goalie cowling, and in 2016 they have gotten rid of the cowling all together. Bauer is the first company to rid of the protective, conventional cowling and replace it with a goalie-standard, yet player-like holder. The new VERTEXX EDGE holder looks like that of a player holder, but, of course, it has a flat design to cater to the flat steel that goalies use. This new holder increases the overall skate height by 5mm, which then increases the goalie's attack angle by 10% from the original VERTEXX cowling and 38% from any traditional cowling. The new holder also features Bauer's new 3mm LS3G stainless steel removable runner that has a better surface finish for a longer lasting sharpening. ERGOTOE is a reinforced toe cap that protects the foot from any pucks that hit the toe box. The Vapor 1X goal skates are constructed with a 3D anaformable Curv Composite boot. Bauer's Curv composite is a strong material that will hold the foot in a locked-in position, for more consistent strides on the ice, and also protects the foot from any contact. The 1X boot is designed with X-Wrap extended facing, to allow for more boot depth; the deeper boot design allows for the goalie to sit in their stance with less lace-tension and lace-bite. Dynamic Flex boot collar and tongue allow for more forward flexion, and the tongue has an asymmetrical profile that follows the shape of the top of the foot. LOCK-FIT PRO liner features grip in key zones to keep the foot locked into place, ensuring optimal fit and performance.
